When would you get an immediate CT head following head injury?

A
GCS <13 on initial assessment
GCS <15 at 2 hours post-injury
Suspected open/depressed skull fracture
Any sign of basal skull fracture
Post-traumatic seizure
Focal neurological deficit
More than one episode of vomiting

When would you get a CT head within 8 hours of the injury?

A

Experienced some LOC or amnesia since injury AND one of the following risk factors:

  • > 65
  • History of bleeding/clotting disorders
  • Dangerous mechanism of injury
  • More than 30 mins retrograde amnesia of events immediately after injury

A
