What is the criteria for neutropenic sepsis?
Fever >38*C or infective symptoms
AND
Neutrophils <0.5 or <=1 if cytotoxic chemo within previous 21 days
What is a standard risk patient with neutropaenic sepsis?
NEWS <=6
What is a high risk patient with neutropaenic sepsis?
Septic shock OR NEWS>=7
What are the empirical antibiotics for standard risk neutropaenic sepsis?
Piperacillin-Tazobactam
What are the empirical antibiotics for high risk neutropaenic sepsis?
Piperacillin-Tazobactam AND gentamicin
What do you replace piperacillin-tazobactam with if there is a penicillin allergy?
Teicoplanin and aztreonam
What do you replace piperacillin-tazobactam with if there is angioedema or anaphylaxis?
Teicoplanin and ciprofloxacin
Do you need to wait for FBC to come back before treating suspected neutropaenic sepsis?
