What are the first rank symptoms of schizophrenia?
Delusional perception
Auditory hallucinations
Delusions of though interference
Passivity phenomena
(different sources say different ones however)
What are the negative symptoms of schizophrenia?
Blunted affect
Poverty of speech (alogia)
Decreased motivation (avolition)
Asociality
Anhedonia
What are the ICD-10 inclusion criteria for schizophrenia (what is used in the lecture)?
1 of:
Thought interference (broadcasting, insertion, withdrawal etc)
Delusions of control, influence or passivity
Auditory hallucinations of voices
Persistent delusions
OR
2 of:
Other modality persistent hallucinations
Neologisms, breaks or interpolations in the train of thought
Catatonic behaviour
Negative symptoms
Have to be present for most of the time for a period of 1 month
What are the ICD-10 exclusion criteria for schizophrenia?
If patient meets criteria for manic or depressive episode, the schizophrenia symptoms must have occurred before this
Must not be related to organic brain disease, or alcohol or drug related reasons e.g. intoxication, withdrawal
What is the diagnostic criteria for bipolar I (DSM-V)?
One episode of Mania lasting 1 week or more (depressive episode not required)
What is the diagnostic criteria for bipolar II (DSM-V)?
One episode of hypomania (lasting 4 or more days) and one depressive episode
What is the difference between mania and hypomania?
Hypomania does not have psychotic symptoms (mania doesn’t always have this) and does not severely disrupt functioning
What age do you need to be before being diagnosed with a personality disorder?
18
How long can a normal grief reaction last for?
6 months (can be up to and beyond 12 months tho)
How long after trauma is a response classed as PTSD?
After 4 weeks
Before that classed as acute stress reaction
