Irrevelevant in somatic symptom disorder
whether symptoms are medically unexplained - can give this diagnosis if criteria are met regardless of other medical findings
somatic symptom disorder
distressing symptoms
excessive thoughts/feelings/behaviors in reponse for at least six months
illness anxiety disorder
when there are no serious symptoms (if they have them, they are mild), but a patient is preocupied with having/getting illness
high level of anxiety about illness, excessive behaviors OR maladaptive avoidance
lasts at least six months
conversion disorder/functional symptom disorder
one needs an MUS
one or more symptoms of altered motor or sensory function
evidence of incomptability between symptom and recognized conditions
splitting the midline
left and right separation in innervation, but at a cutaneous level those nerves cross the midline
–sharp loss of symptoms when testing across midline
hoovers sign
as the patient attempts to move the “unmovable leg” he/she should push down with their normal leg (if they dont- consciously or unconsciously-not putting in effort)
arm drop
hold arm over face and let it drop
see if patient avoids hitting face
can also monitor___ for 24 hrs
EEG-look for findings taht correlate with seizures
factitous disorder
falsifying or cuasing symptoms and lying about it
presents for medical attention
no obvious external rewards
Munchausen’s
type of factitious disorder that is more extreme
pt moving around creating symptoms
psychological factors affecting othe rmedical conditions
medical (not psych) condition or symptom
psych factors cause/exacerbate/prolong/interfere with treatment
malingering
not a psychiatric diagnosis
intentional production of signs or symptoms for external reward
risk factor of malingering
antisocial personality disorder
pseudo-malingering
pretending to have a disease that one eventually discovers one
