Soc14 Muscular System Flashcards
What is the other muscle in the antagonistic pair with the deltoid?
Pectorals
What is the other muscle in the antagonistic pair with the bicep?
Triceps
What is the other muscle in the antagonistic pair with the quadracepts?
Hamstrings
What is the other muscle in the antagonistic pair with the gluteus maximus
Hip flexors
What is the other muscle in the antagonistic pair with the pectorals?
Deltoids
What movement does the deltoid perform?
Abducts upper arm at the shoulder
What movement does the pectorals perform?
Adduction of the upper arm at the shoulder
What movement does the triceps perform?
Extends lower arm at the elbow
What movement does the bicep perform?
Flexes arm at the elbow
What movement does the quadracepts perform?
Extends the leg at the knee
What movement does the hamstring perform?
Flexes the leg at the knee
What movement does the tibialis anterior perform?
Dorsi flexion at the foot
What movement does the gastrocnemius perform?
Plantar flexion at the foot
What movement does the gluteus maximus perform?
Extends the legs at the hips
What movement does the hip flexors perform?
Flexes the leg at the hip
What sport uses the deltoids?
To throw the javelin you need to push with your deltoids
What sport uses the pectorals ?
Throwing a punch in boxing uses the pectorals
What sport uses the triceps ?
When you quickly extend your arm to spike the ball in volleyball
What sport uses the biceps?
Pull someone towards you to throw them in judo
What sport uses the quadracepts?
Kicking someone with force in a kick-boxing match
What sport uses the hamstring?
When a basketball player jumps to dunk
What sport uses the tibialis interior ?
Controlling the football from height from a goal kick
What sport uses the gastrocnemius ?
When standing on your toes in ballet
What sport uses the gluteus maximus ?
A footballer needs to pull his leg back to kick the football with force
What sport uses the hip flexors?
Driving your knees up to run faster in the 100 meters
What is a voluntary muscle?
Voluntary muscles are under our control, you can choose when to contract or relax them e.g Bicep
What shape are voluntary muscles?
They are usually made up of cylinder shaped fibres and are long and thin however when they are contracted they turn fat and shorter
What are slow twitch muscle fibres?
Suit endurance activities-can work for long periods of time
Darker in colour because they contain myoglobin, a red pogament that transport oxegen to working muscles
What are fast twitch muscles (type IIa)
Used in anaerobic work which can be improved through endurance training. Increase their resistance to fatigue.
What are fast twitch muscles (type IIx)
Used in anaerobic work they can generate more power than other muscles fibres but fatigue quickly
