Soc-26 Flashcards
Give an example of an open skill
Dribbling in football as the environment is always changing
What is a closed skill
A skill where the environment doesnt change
Give an example of a closed skill
Taking a penalty in football
Shooting a free-throw
Throwing a dart
What is massed training
Long intense training without taking a break until the skill is learnt. Usually for very fit atheletes
What is distributed training
Training a certain skill over several practice sessions with many breaks
Usually for players of a lower ability of fitness level
What is fixed practice
Practice which goes over a singke situation until it is perfected
Usually closed skills are practiced this way
What is a basic skill
A skill which requires little concentration and little info to process
For example a simple short pass in football or a pass in basketball
What is a complex skill
A skill in a sport which has multiple complicated phases
For example a sommersault in gymnastics
What is a variable skill
A skill which have to adapt to a variety of situations
All of these situations will be slightly different e.g dribbling passed defenders in football
What is a complex skill
A challenging skill which requires lots of concentration and info to process quickly to perform well
E.g a spiking in volleyball or a smash in tennis
Definitions of guidance
Info to aid the learning of a skill; can be given visually, verbally, manually ot mechanically
What is visual guidance
.Coach showing the technique or ‘perfect model’
.Show a video
.Easy to understand, but harder to show difficult skills
.Helps learner visualise the skills
What is variable guidance
.Can be hard to understand, but important for harder skills
.Can be provided during a performance and is ideal for open skills
.Effective when used in conjunction with other forms of guidance
.Good for advanced performers
What is manual guidance
.Gives’ feel’ for movement, but not always practical
.Can be used with leaners of all abilities
.Helps build confidence
What is mechanical guidance
Very effective in the early stages of learning
.Helps the learner gain kinaesthetic of the movement
.Helps build confidence
Feedback definition
Info received before, during or after a performance about the performance
Intrinsic feedback
Experienced performers will know when something feels right or wrong, whereas beginners may not have such experience
What is extrinsic feedback
Comes from and external source (coach)
.Beginners will benefit greatly from extrinsic feedback as they may not have the knowledge to assess their own performance
.Can motivate them to improve
What is concurrent feedback?
Provided during the performance
.This feedback can be acted on immediately
.E.g communication from the sidelines from the manager / coach
What is terminal feedback?
Provided at the end of the game or performance
.This feedback will be aimed at being more reflective and giving an overview of the performance
