Soc 17 The Structure Of The Respiratory System Flashcards
Why do we need the respiratory system
- To get oxygen into the body and keep the body supplied
- To remove carbon dioxide from the body
Inspiration
breathing in
20% oxygen + 0.4% carbon dioxide
Exhalation
breathing out
16% oxygen + 4% carbon dioxide
Vital capcity
is the greatest amount of air that can be pass into and out of the lungs by the most forceful inspiration and expiration.
Tidal volume
is the amount of air inspired and expired with each breath.
Oxygen debt
the amount of oxygen needed at the end of a physical activity to break down any lactic acid is known as oxygen debt.
Diaphragm movement
changes from a dome shape to a flatter shape when we breathe in and relaxes when we breathe out.
Alveoli
These are the branches of the bronchioles. They feed oxygen through capillaries into the blood stream
