They allow bones to rotate. You have 3 pivot joints; wrist, neck and elbow

A
A joint that allows only backward and forward motion. There are 3 hinge joints; knee, elbow and neck.

Give an example
A
The rounded head of a long bone fits into a cup-shaped hole. The hip and shoulder are both ball and socket joints.
