What is a soft tissue injury
Movement outside of their normal range can tear the tissue.
What is a sprain
Damage to the ligament. Caused by stretching too far past normal range of the joint or by falling or colliding with an oponent. Most commonly a sprained ankle. Syptoms of swelling.
What is a strain
A twist, pull or tear of a muscle or a tendon. For e.g. tennis and golfers elbow.
What is a torn cartilage
Cartilage is a firm elastic substance that lines adjoining bones. It absorbs the impacts on bones while reducing the friction during sports/activities. Usually occurs due to wear and tear from long-term overuse.
What is a fracture
A broken or cracked bone including: Stress fractures In closed Compound fracture Simple fracture
Examples of simple/closed fractures
Greenstick Transverse Impacted Comminuted Oblique
What is a dislocation
When a bone at a joint is forced out of its normal position.
What is an abrasion
Caused by friction of the skin against a rough surface.
What is a concussion
An injury normally caused by a blow to the head and can happen in many sports.
Five ways we can minmise chance of injury
- Correct application of the principles of training
- Correct application and adherence of the rules
- Use of appropriate protective clothing
- Checking of equiptment and facilities
- Use of a warm-up and cool-down
