What are the 4 different categories of bones
Long bones
Short bones
Flat bones
Irregular bones
What are long bones
They are longer then they are wide and has a shaft and two ends. They dont have to be big though, e.g. phalanges.
What are short bones
They are genurally the same size in length, width and thickness. The only ones are the tarsals and carpals. They are usually associated with weight baring, shock absorbtion and spreading loads.
What are flat bones
They usually protect organs or offer a good surface for muscles to attach to.
What are irregular bones
They have odd shapes and vary in function
