What happens at the matrix region of the hair follicle?
keratin is produced by keratin producing cells
Where is “soft” keratin found in the hair follicle?
Central medulla

What does acute dermatitis look like on the microscope?
Intra-epidermal vesicles containing white cells and cell debris; spongiosis
What does psoriasis look like on the microscope?
parakeratosis, micro-abscesses, elongated rete pegs
What does bullous pemphygoid look like on the microscope?
fluid filled bullae with eosinophils, split through DEJ and epidermis forms blister roof
Effects of skin failure
Loss of thermoregulation, increased risk of infection, failure of homeostatic function eg fluid losses

acute wound closed by suture
What is secondary intention healing
acute wound left to heal on its own
