Skills Lab Notes Flashcards
What is an empowered action step?
These are actions steps that are simple, practical, and impactful that will help lead a client to inevitable success.
Where do the ideas for empowered action steps come from?
They may evolve organically during a session with a client. They can be ideas already in a coaches tool box that are practical and basic.
Who leads with the empowered action steps?
It is ideal that they come from or are elicited from the client first, the health coach second.
This makes the action step more exciting for the client and gets them motivated to follow through on what they have chosen for themselves vs what the coach offers.
What can a coach say if needing to recommend an action step for the client?
“You know, I think this might be best, depending on where you were, and where you wanna go. But check in for a moment. Does this feel like the best action step for you to take this week? Or is there something else coming up for you that really does feel like it’s going to make the difference and move the needle forward for you?”
Why is simple relevant to an empowered action step?
The coach needs to make sure that the client is not overwhelmed, especially in the beginning. The client may also need help with pacing themselves.
Keeping it simple is really about consistency. With small simple changes, done consistently will better guarantee results and big results over time.
What does an empowered “come-from” mean?
Who is the client being when they state the action step(s) to take. Are they coming from a place of disempowerment, fear, guilt, doubt, hesitancy?
Why is it important to listen for the “should” statements?
Should is not a place of own truth and clarity.
What should a coach be curious about?
Always asking questions that will bring more information to the surface for the client. Whether is trying to take them away from disempowerment or get them even more excited in their already there empowerment. There’s alway more room for more clarity, possibility, certainty, and excitement.
“I noticed…”
“Could you tell me a little bit more about that?”
“Was there anything more there for you?”
What are the steps to designing empowered action steps?
Step 1 - Encourage & elicit organic simple, practical and impactful action steps from the client
Step 2 - Listen for the empowered “come-from” & get curious if disempowered or empowered
Step 3 - Encourage the client to set their own date to complete action step(s)
Step 4 - Have the client review/read back their action step(s) for ownership and clarity
