Discovering The Perfect Diet (For You) Flashcards
Why do most diets fail?
Because they are too restrictive and their daily caloric consumption drops below their resting metabolic rate.
What is Resting Metabolic Rate or RMR?
The minimal amount of calories or energy needed in order for the body to function.
What happens when the RMR drops below a certain level?
The body senses danger and begins to store food as fat and when the body senses a state of starvation it signals you to eat.
How does dieting affect the body metabolically?
You often lose valuable metabolically active muscle and gain back predominantly fat.
What is the difference between fat cells and muscle cells?
Fat cells store energy and muscle cells utilize and burn it.
Fat cells still contribute to overall dietary energy, but muscle cells (smooth muscle, cardiac muscle, skeletal muscle) burn significantly more calories.
Why is there no perfect diet?
It’s not about the diet. It’s about the perfect of eating for each person. This takes into consideration different factors, such as lifestyle, activity level, age or phase in life, preexisting medical, etc.
There are as many diets as there are people on the planet.
Your body is the ultimate dietary authority
What’s are some coaching paradigms?
What’s healthy for one person, might not be healthy for you.
Your body is the ultimate dietary authority.
Diets are not useful as dogma, however they are useful as reference.
Your diet changes as you change.
Your relationship with food and your body impacts your health more powerfully than the food you eat.
Every symptom, craving, or behavior around food has a positive intention…symptoms, cravings, or behaviors are not the problem, they are the best solution you have developed so far.
Nourishment is about much more than just food.
In reality, what is the perfect diet?
The perfect diet = the practical how-to + transformational mindset.
When these two are combined together you achieve INNER and OUTER transformation.
