smooth muscle
No striated, involuntary, found in GI, Reproductive, ureters, blood vessels. Single nucleus, centrally located
Cardiac muscle
striations, involuntary, heart, connected by intercalated disks usually have 1-3 nucleus
Skeletal muscle
striations, voluntary, attach to bones, multinucleated
peristalsis
Progressive alternating wave of coordinated contractions and relaxtion
Segmentation
Stationary rhythmic contraction and relaxation of circular intestinal smooth muscle
Skeletal muscle
aids in body posture and movement
Muscle on lateral part of hind leg
Biceps femoris
Muscle that is directly under the skin and usually separated with the skin
Cutaneous trunci
in the middle of the hing leg, contracts when you move your leg
Gastrocnemius
Located on the anterior of tail
Gluteus group
on the medial part of the hind leg and is a thin sheet. When making a cut the muscle that was cut to reveal muscle below
Gracillis
below the scapula ridge
Infraspinatus
located caudal of the shoulder and the striations fan out caudal/dorsl
Latissimus Dorsi
runs on the exterior of the spine
Longissimus
Located lateral of rectus abdominis and striations run diagonally crainial/dorsal
Obliquus externus abdominis
Wraps around the medial part of the front legs
Pectoralis profundi
located near stifle on cranial part of the hind leg
Quadriceps Femoris
Located in the stomach region “abs”
Rectus abdominis
located on the inner leg, Lateral to gracilis
Semimemranosus
Located caudal part of hind leg, below the tail, tendon like
Semitendinosus
Medial beneath the Latissimus dorsi large white lines makes it look like knuckles
Serratus ventalis
Located in front of the scapula ridge
Supraspinatus
Located dorsal of the shoulder and looks like a large triangle
Trapezius
Located on the caudal part of the front leg
Triceps group
located at the back of the scapula
Subscapularis
Begins at the medial surface caudal to the last rib and ventral to the vertebrae
Psoas major
