Shoulder girdle Flashcards
Levator scapulae
Origin: Posterior tubercles of the transverse processes of cervical vertebrae C1-C4.
Insertion: Superior part of the medial border of the scapula.
Action: Elevates the scapula, tilts the glenoid cavity inferiorly by rotating the scapula downward.
Innervation: Dorsal scapular nerve (C5) and cervical nerves C3 and C4.
Pectoralis minor
Origin- ribs 3-5
Insertion- corocoid process of scapula
Action - depression, downward rotation, abduction of scapula, elevation of ribs
Innervation -medial pectoral nerve
Rhomboids (Major and Minor)
Origin-
Minor: nuchal ligament and spinous processes of C7 and T1 vertebrae
Major: spinous processes of T2 - T5 vertebrae
Insertion- Medial border of scapula from level of spine to inferior angle
Action - retract and rotate the scapula, which helps to stabilize the shoulder girdle
Innervation - Dorsal scapular nerve
Serratus anterior
Origin- The lateral surfaces of the upper 8 or 9 ribs.
Insertion-Medial border of the scapula
Action - Protraction and upward rotation of the scapula
Innervation - Long thoracic nerve
Trapezius I
Origin- Occipital bone and ligamentum nuchae
Insertion- Posterior border of the lateral third of the clavicle
Action - Elevation
Innervation -Accessory nerve
Trapezius II
Origin- Ligamentum nuchae
Insertion- Top of acromion process
Action -Elevation, upward rotation, adduction
Innervation -Accessory nerve
Trapezius III
Origin- Spinous processes of C7 and upper three thoracic vertebrae
Insertion- scapular spine
Action -Adduction
Innervation - Accessory nerve
Trapezius IV
Origin- Spinous processes of T4 through T12
Insertion- Root of scapular spine
Action -Upward rotation, depression, adduction
Innervation - Accessory nerve
