Q

Casual Sex

A

Most people no longer expect to “save themselves” for marriage, as was once acceptable.

However, most people still believe that sex among unmarried people is only acceptable as long as it occurs in an affectionate, committed relationship.

This is the permissiveness with affection standard

Q

Hookups

A
  • Hookups are short-lived sexual interactions with nonromantic partners that do not involve any
    expectation of a lasting relationship.
  • All genders engage in hookup.
  • Up to 40% of people who engage in hooking up report being disappointed by the ordeal or having negative emotions afterwards.

However, these results vary according to the reasons people hookup to begin with.

People who engage in hookups for pleasure or for having fun tend to have better experiences and view hooking up more favorably than people who hookup for other reasons.
