COMMITMENT ( ‘’ I need to stay’’) - religion,kids,economic relience,culture?,legal - MORAL COMMITMENT(‘’ i ought to stay’’) - internal feelings - Flá
Personal Commitment
“Personal dedication to the continuation of a line of action” (Johnson, 1985, p.3)
Components:
1. Attraction to one’s partner
2. Attraction to the relationship
3. Definition of self in terms of the relationship
Structural (Constraint)
Commitment
“Events or conditions which constrain an individual to continue a line of action once he or she has initiated it, regardless of his/her personal commitment to it …
Components :
* Irretrievable investments
* Termination procedures
* Social pressures
* Attractiveness of available alternatives
Moral
Commitment
Moral obligation to the
maintenance of the relationship
for a reletionship to have commitment does not mean just one of the three
( personal commitment,moral commitment,structural comment)
Increasing Commitment
- Explicitness of the behavior -public vs. Private
- Importance of relationship -
who are you telling? - Degree of irrevocability
– written vs. verbal - Number of actions/effort
