Q

The Massachusetts Treatment Center Rapist Typology, Version 3 :
-Explain The opportunistic category
L> Assertive (Type 1)
L> Non- Assertive (Type 2)

A
  1. They often commit during the act of another crime aka sexual offending is unplanned. (it is controlled via contexts to the crime) They are generally antisocial. They are typically impulsive, unplanned, and driven by opportunity as a means of seeking immediate gratification. They are not driven by violence but they may use whatever force needed to subdue their victims with little empathy/regard for them.
L> More socially well off, indifferent to the victim, callous/no empathy. They start this behaviour in adulthood.
L> Onset is adolescence. Not socially well off; they are odd…unusual

The Massachusetts Treatment Center Rapist Typology, Version 3 :
-Explain the Pervasively Angry category! (Type 3)

A
  • Undifferentiated anger….aka they are angry at everything in all areas of life. They have poor behavioural controls. (impulsive, sex offences= poorly planned) They can become so angry or hostile that they over kill during the crime and often cause serious injuries. They tend to score high on psychopathy and tend to have ASPD…They have low social competence.

Q
The Massachusetts Treatment Center Rapist Typology, Version 3 :
- Explain the Sexual Category
L> Sadistic:
I. Overt (Type 4)
II. Muted ( Type 5)
L> Non-sadistic:
III. Assertive (Type 6)
IV. Non- assertive (Type 7)
A

-They have extensive sexual fantasies or preoccupations, many of which are incorporated with the act of rape. They display poor differentiation between sexual and aggressive drives..
1. Shows both sexual and Anger
I. They usually have a lot of paraphilias, usually are married. Aggression is manifested directly into physically injurious behaviour in their sexual assault…they score low on social competence.
II. Tend not to have as much anger, they are more sexual. The aggression is either expressed symbolically or through covert fantasy that is is not acted out behaviourally. Score high on social competence.. might be why they “mute” fantasies from manifesting
2.They are sexually motivated but not about violence, offending meets sexual needs. They are very sexually preoccupied.
III. They are socially well off, very aware of their situation/self. They select and stalk victims before raping them. Ex: celebrity stalkers/rapists.
IV. They tend to want to prove their sexual prowess by being more sexual and forceful. They believe the victim will fall in love with them..They lack self control. They have cognitive and perceptual disturbances: believe the victim enjoys it etc. They are not socially well off.

Q

The Massachusetts Treatment Center Rapist Typology, Version 3 :
4. Vindictive
L> Assertive (Type 8)
L> Non-assertive (Type 9)

A
  1. They are motivated by: anger towards women; their offences target women to take out their anger on them. They humiliate, degrade and demean the victims. They tend to be socially isolated.
L> There is profanity present during the offence. The attack is sadistic. They usually have a history of domestic abuse.
L> They are less socially well than the assertive type. They may be in a marriage with lots of tension but not abusive. Less profanity is present during the offence. They target women in higher positions just as the Assertive. Not sadistic.
