Sexual Anatomy:women Flashcards
why do women have lower sexual desire than man?
- do a lot of work (at home and outside of it) so they get tired
Heteronormativity Theory of Low Sexual
Desire in Women Partnered With Men
heteronomity:
-indequalitable divison of labor
-objetification
-caregiver-mother role to partner
**-gender nomes about sexual initiation
**
results in low sexual desire in women
how long is the average orgasm
30 sec
been reported 2min(vulva)
orgasm gap: man are more likely to experience orgasm then women
Anatomy
Us and Our Genitals
psychology?
- hang-ups, misunderstanding
- shame, embarrassment, and guilt
- massive diversity
- pornography(not very realistic)
Genital Self-image
Attitudes and feelings about own genitals
* How do people feel about their genitals?
most feel positive
but some have mix feelings
Important links to sexual well-being
* Comfort with partner(ex; oral sex)
* Labiaplasty(cosmetic sergery)
* Penis enlargement surgery
Anatomy – People with vulvas know where they are and what they do
External Genitals (Vulva)
* Mons Veneris
* Labia Majora
* Labia Minora
* Clitoris
* Vaginal Opening
* Vestibule
* Perineum
* Urethral Opening
* Hymen
Internal Genitals
* Vagina
* Cervix
* Uterus
* Fallopian Tubes
* Ovaries
Mons Veneris (Pubis)
the rounded fatty part of tissue where we have pubic hair
acts as a cushion during intercourse, sensitive to the touch it can bring plesure
Labia Majora
- large folds
- hide the other parts of the genitals
- protection of the genital
- can bring plesure
- suranded by public hair
Pubic Hair
3 theories why we have them
1.traps pheramones(attracts partners)
2.protection from friction during sex
3.shows maturity for possible partners
libia minora
- hairless lips that sit inside the labia majora
- join with the clitoral hood
- huge variation in size, shape, symmetry, and colour
- on average, 2 – 10 cm long, protrude 0.5 – 5 cm
- Bartholin glands: lumbrificate
- sexual plesure
Clitoris
* clitoral shaft → two corpora cavernosa (spongy tissue)
* glans →** part that is visible**
- clitoral hood → covers the exposed part of the shaft and most of the glans
- highly innervated
- shaft mostly hidden
- average size: 25mm long, 5mm wide, protrude 3- 10mm
- most sensitive part of the genitals
- bring plesure very important can bring orgasm
Female Genital Cutting/Mutilation
between infacy and 15 years old
Type 1: Clitordectomy
* removal of the clitoris
Type 2: Excision
* Partial or total removal of the clitoris and inner lips
Type 3:** Infibulation**
* entire removal of clitoris and vulva
* vaginal opening sutured together; small passage left for
menstruation
type 4:all others procedure- pircings
Labia Minora – Labiaplasty
- Most popular: labia minora
- other surgeries: vaginal tightening, liposuction of the mons veneris, unhooding the clitoris
Vulvar Vestibule
- area inside of the labia minora,
region around urethra and vaginal
opening - vulvodynia:cronic pain in this area
the pain can be proveked during sex for example or not provoked
16% suffer pain in this area for a couple months
Urethral Opening
- located above vaginal opening and
below the clitoris - for peeing
- urinary tract infections: prone to bacterial infections
due to proximity to vagina and anus
if infaction is untreated it can become :
- cystitis – inflammation of the bladder
Vaginal Opening
or ** introitus**
- lies below, and is larger than, the urethral opening
hymen
– fold of tissue that surrounds or partially covers the vaginal opening
variability
The Hymen and Virginity
- Evidence of virginity
- No hymen, may tear during exercise, during sexual exploration, during insertion of a tampon
- virginity verification; artificial hymens; hymen restoration
- it is not possible to confirm virginity by examining a hymen!
perineum
– skin and underlying tissues between vaginal
opening and anus
internal anatomy of the vigina
**vestibular bulbs **(clitoris)
theres more to the clirus then just the glans
– erectile tissue, extending down
sides of vaginal opening
- engorge with blood during sexual arousal,
swelling the vulva
Vagina
- fibromuscular tubular tract
- typically 8 to 10 cm deep at rest (3-4 inches)
it acomodates during sex and child birth
- vaginal mucosa: lubrification foems during sexual arousal
Lubricants
water-based
+ easy to clean up, safe with all sex toys
– rinse off in water, needs to be re-applied, can contain
glycerin(can cause east infection)
silicone-based
+ doesn’t rinse off in water, lasts much longer without
reapplication, better for anal sex/play
– messy, can damage silicone sex toys, taste, stain sheets
oil-based
+ lasts forever
– can’t be used with sex toys or condoms, really messy and
difficult to clean up
association of lumbrification with womens sexual plesure
women recorded when they had sex with lube
2,453 women completed a 5-week internet-based, double-blind
prospective daily diary study in which they were assigned to use one
of six water- or silicone-based lubricants
- Water-based lubricants were associated with fewer genital symptoms compared with silicone-based lubricants
- Use of a water-based or silicone-based lubricant was associated with
higher ratings of sexual pleasure and satisfaction for solo sex, penile-
vaginal sex, and penile/anal sex compared to no lubricant use
Vagina
- few nerve endings(close to the opening)-thats why clitoris causes more orgasm
- microorganisms (i.e., bacteria) that protect
- healthy at pH of 4-5 (acidic)
- discharge
- self-cleaning
Pubococcygeus (PC) Muscles
surounds the vigena,urethria and the anus
Kegels
* exercise of the pubococcygeus (PC) muscles
(muscle floor of the vagina)
G Spot(Grafenberg)
- soft mass of tissues 2.5-5cm from
vaginal entrance - intense sensation; vaginal orgasm
- controversia
one universal structure has not been found to be caused of this extreme plesure but people still feel it
* clitourethrovaginal (CUV)
complex
during the intercorse a bunch of different areas are used together and feels good
**urethea,clitoris and the vigina **
Female Ejaculation
- intense stimulation of the G Spot, typically, resulting in the expulsion of fluid from the urethra
- 10-40% of females
- low-volume versus high volume
- Skene’s glands or urin
Cervix
- lower end of the uterus
- os – opening about the size of a pencil
cervical cancer
* HPV
- smoking
* Gardasil and other vaccines
Uterus
- where the fertilized ovum implants
- three layers:
- perimetrium (outside)
- myometrium(medium/muscler layer,very strong,help with pushing baby out)
- endometrium(inside,creates mestruam flow)
Fallopian Tubes (Oviducts)
passageway for the ova from the ovaries to the uterus
- tubal ligation – tie off fallopian tubes so ova can’t pass
-
ectopic pregnancy – implantation of the ovum in the
fallopian tubes
Ovaries
- follicles like capsuls that have eggs inside when ready it bursy
- oocytes (ova)
- 400 ripened ova over lifetime
produce hormones
- **estrogens (estradiol) **– promotes physiological changes
during puberty and control menstrual cycle -
progesterone – controls menstrual cycle and stimulates
thickening (proliferation) of the endrometrium (for
pregnancy)
The Bum
- anus – opening
two sphincters:
external – voluntary control
internal – typically involuntary
- rectum – outer-most passage
Breasts
secondary sex characteristic:
- 15-20 mammary glands per breast(man and women have it)
- filled with fatty tissue
- areola
* nipple
- large variation in size,
shape, position, hair, etc. - asymmetrical
