Self Management 2 Flashcards
A relapse could be caused by
I adequately defined target behavior
The target behavior or single goal being set too far into the future
Focusing on too many behaviors at once
A lack of rewards for the desired behavior or for not exhibiting the undesired behavior
Small cumulative effects of exhibiting the undesired behavior or not exhibiting the desired behavior
For self control to work the individual must
Be able to identify the target behaviors
Understand reinforcement and/or punishment
Understand bootleg reinforcement
Be able to identify effective reinforcers
Be able to set appropriate criteria for the consequences
Be able to cons equate the behavior
Sequential modification
Implementation of a procedure sequentially across settings
Multiple exemplars
Apply the procedure using one example, apply to another example, probe, etc. until generalization is evident
General case analysis
Conduct an analysis of the range of stimuli to be learned and teach to those stimulus conditions
Program common stimuli
Bringing stimuli from the natural setting into the training stimuli fosters generalization to the natural setting
Natural contingencies of reinforcement
Selecting target behaviors that get reinforced in the natural environment
Train loosely
Varying non-critical properties of antecedent stimuli
Indiscriminate contingencies
Varying schedules and immediacy of reinforcement
If you suffer initial setbacks in a self-management program
Re-implement the program and not be discouraged, occasional setbacks are normal. Chronic setbacks would indicate a need to re-evaluate the goals, measures, and program
