Cooper Ch 1 Flashcards
Determinism
Presumption that the universe is a lawful place where all phenomena occur as a result of other events
Functional relation
Exists when a well controlled experiment reveals that a specific change in one event can reliably be produced by specific manipulations of another event
Empiricism
Practice of objective observation
Parsimony
All simple, logical explanations for the phenomenon under investigation be ruled out before a more complex one is considered
ABA
Developing a technology to improve behavior
EAB
Experimental analysis of behavior
Behaviorism
Philosophy of the science of behavior
Applied
Select behaviors for improvement that are socially significant
Behavioral
The behavior chosen for study must be THE behavior in need of improvement
Behavior must be measurable
Ask whose behavior has changed when behavior change has occurred
Analytic
Experimenter demonstrates a functional relation between manipulated events and a reliable change on some dimension of behavior
Technological
All operative procedures are identified and described with sufficient detail and clarity
Conceptually systematic
Procedures used for changing behavior and any interest actions of how or why procedures were effective should be described in terms of the relevant principles from which they were derived
Effective
Behavior techniques under investigation must improve the behavior to a practical degree
Generality
Behavior change lasts over time, appears in other environments, and/or spreads to behaviors not directly treated by the intervention
