Extinction Flashcards
When using extinction
Withhold reinforcement all of the time
There is a possibility of an increase in aggression or counter control
Do not use extinction
If an increase in intensity would pose an unacceptable risk
Planned ignoring
A form of extinction if attention is the reinforcer
Behaviors more resistant to extinction are
Those that have a long history of reinforcement
The quality of the reinforcer is high
The amount of reinforcement is high
Effort to exhibit behavior is low
Spontaneous recovery
The re-emergence of behavior during extinction, even though reinforcement has not occurred. It is temporary and followed by a decrease in behavior
Operant extinction
Involves withholding reinforcement when the behavior occurs
Respondent extinction
Involves the un-pairing of a conditioned stimulus and an unconditioned stimulus
