Language Acquisition 2 Flashcards
When using volume fading to teach labeling, if the student begins to match your voice volume
Reinforce only responses that are sufficiently loud, put on extinction faded responses. Sudden termination of prompts and reducing their length removes the stimulus controlling the inappropriate vocalization
When selecting objects to teach to label choose those
Objects that are likely to be used, are clearly enunciated and highly discriminable
To teach labeling begin
By presenting the SD in low voice volume, then immediately (within 1 second) prompt the correct response
To address echolalia
Whisper the question and say loudly the prompt or teach the student to say “I don’t know in response to unfamiliar responses
To increase voice volume
First select words that you tend to say loudly or quietly (wow, super vs. soft, baby)
To bring volume under instructional control
Make the request in voice volume you want to hear (e.g., say “speak loudly” in a loud voice). After achieving criterion you would gradually fade the prompt volume
