What are the consequences of sport confidence?

A

Affect, Behaviour and Cognition (ABC’s).
If an athlete has a higher level of sport confidence they are more likely to have a more positive effect (emotion), they are more likely to try harder
(behaviours) and they are likely to pay closer attention to their sport to keep improving (cognition)

What are the Factors influencing sport confidence?

A

1) Personality factors such as the athletes level of optimism
2)Demographic characteristics such as gender (BUT there are many conflicting findings surrounding this)
3)Organisational structure such as coach behaviours, level of competition and motivational climate

What is the impact of self confidence?

A

-Self-confidence can arouse positive emotions, higher concentration, increase effort and influence game strategy.
-. If an athlete has lower levels of confidence, or is over-confident, there is a strong chance performance can decrease, affecting overall psychological well-being and increasing injury risk.
