Q

What is the 10,000 hour rule?

A

It is the notion of 10,000 hours
practice being necessary to reach an elite level in sport.
It is now largely discredited.
While most people in sport support the idea that sport-specific practice is important for developing as an athlete, there is little evidence to suggest the figure of 10,000 hours is valid.
For example, in a study of elite youth football players from many places including the UK, Europe and South America, none of the players reported a figure close to the 10,000-hour ‘rule’.
