Resilience determines how well you can deal with difficult circumstances
Why is resilience important in sport?
Resilience is important in sport because it helps athletes
cope with difficult situations and minimise negative influences on performance.
What are some situations where having higher levels of resilience is important?
Injury, burnout, during performance slumps and during career transitions.
Why is resilience important during injury?
-It helps you stay positive and engage in behaviours which make the injury period more beneficial.
What is burnout?
Burnout is a physical and mental state that shows a reduced sense of
accomplishment,resentment towards sport, coupled with physical and emotional exhaustion.
Why is resilience important during burnout?
If athletes have lower levels of resilience it takes longer to recover from burnout.
What is a slump in form/performance slump?
Performance slumps are where athletes experience a long-term drop in performance and struggle to find a way out of it.
Why is resilience important during performance slumps?
-Higher levels of resilience are important as it helps an athlete to remain confident and positive and encourages them to see being dropped as an opportunity to learn and develop.
