Energising techniques Flashcards
What are common energising techniques?
-Pep talk – A short talk that is designed to instil enthusiasm in athletes and increase their determination to succeed.
-Listening to music
-Positive statements
-Use of energising imagery- this can be achieved through the use of high-energy images of competition (e.g. a hard tackle in rugby), playing well (e.g. crossing the finish line first in a race) and high levels of effort
(e.g. being able to lift a new weight in the gym).
-Increasing breathing rate
Why is listening to music a good energising technique?
-Can narrow a performer’s
attention and divert it from tiredness.
-Can increase body temperature, heart rate and breathing rate, all of which can improve sport performance.
-Helpful for avoiding negative thoughts
When is the best time to use breathing control?
When there is a break in the play, because it gives an athlete the chance to be slow and deliberate in their breathing technique
