Μυκερίνῳ τὰ μὲν τοῦ πατρὸς ἔργα ἀφήνδανε·
The deeds of his father did not please Mycerinus;
ὁ δὲ τὰ τε ἱερὰ ἀνέῳξε,
he opened the temples
καὶ τὸν λεὼν,
and the people,
τετρυμένον εἰς τὸ ἔσχατον κακοῦ,
afflicted to an extreme point of suffering
ἀνῆκε πρὸς ἔργα τε καὶ θυσίας·

δίκας δὲ αὐτοῖς πάντων βασιλέων δικαιοτάτας ἔκρινεν.

ὄντι δὲ ἠπίῳ τῷ Μυκερίνῳ κατὰ τοὺς πολίτας
But although Mycerinus was being gentle with regard to the citizens
καὶ ταῦτα ἐπιτηδεύοντι
and behaving in such a way
πρῶτον κακῶν ἦρξεν ἡ θυγατὴρ ἀποθανοῦσα
his daughter, by dying, first began his woes,
ἣ μόνον οἱ ἦν ἐν τοῖς οἰκίοις τέκνον.
she who was his only child in the household.
μετὰ δὲ τὸ τῆς θυγατρὸς πάθος,
After the fate of his daughter
δεύτερα τούτῳ τῷ βασιλεῖ τάδε ἐγένετο·
then a second [misfortune] happened to this king as follows
ἦλθεν οἱ μαντεῖον ἐκ Βουτοῦς πόλεως,
A prophecy from the city of Buto came to him
ὡς μέλλοι ἕξ ἔτη μόνον βιοὺς τῷ ἑβδόμῳ τελευτήσειν.
