Why punishment can be regarded as justice
-Retributive justice is a theory of justice which considers that punishment proportionate to the crime is the best way of carrying out justice=justice demands that they should be punished for what they have done. This is not revenge and is not like ‘an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth’.
-punishment as justice requires the punishment to be proportional to the crime
Why punishment might be needed in society?
-deterrence
-make sure that all members of society obey those laws
-organise the behaviour of individuals
-protect weak from strong
