Great Auricular (C2)

LMN Bells Palsy
Ipsilateral upper/lower facial asymmetry
What would produce damage to neuronal cell dues in corticobulbar tract?
UMN Bells Palsy
Loss of voluntary control of LOWER muscles of facial expression on contralateral side
What are the branches of the facial nerve? Corresponding structures?
- Temporal (Frontalis and orbicularis oculi)
- Zygomatic (Orbicularis Oculi)
- Buccal (Upper lip and nostril)
- Mandibular (Lowe Lip)
- Cervical (Platysma)
What is Bells Phenomenon?
Facial Nerve Damage:
When the patient attempts to close his/her eye, the eyeball rolls upwards and outwards
What is the anastomoses between the ICA and ECA?
Angular Branch of Facial artery of ECA which runs over lower border of mandible connects with ophthalmic branches of ICA
Where does the facial vein drain?
Facial vein —> Superior ophthalmic veins—> Cavernous sinus —> IJV
What supplies the muscles of mastication? What are they?
- Masseter
- Temporalis
- Lateral Pterygoid
- Medial pterygoid
Where is the Parotid duct located?
- Runs along the masseter
- Turns hardly to pierce Buccinator muscle
- Enters oral cavity opposite the crown of the 2nd maxillary molar tooth
