SB8d The Heart Flashcards
What are the hearts 4 chambers?
.right atrium
.left atrium
.right ventricle
.left ventricle
What is the passage of blood through the heart?
vena cava -> right atrium -> right ventricle -> pulmonary artery -> pulmonary vein -> left atrium -> left ventricle -> aorta
What is the role of the vena cava?
carries deoxygenated blood from the body to the heart.
What is the role of the aorta?
carries oxygenated from the heart to the body.
What is the role of the pulmonary artery?
carries deoxygenated blood to the lungs.
What is the role of the pulmonary vein?
carries oxygenated blood from the lungs to heart.
Why are there valves in the heart?
to prevent backflow.
Why is the wall of the left ventricle thicker than the wall of the right ventricle?
the left side of the heart needs to pump blood around the whole body, whereas the right side only needs to pump blood to the lungs.
Cardiac output = ?
stroke volume x heart rate
