SB6f Plant Hormones Flashcards
1
Q
Tropism?
A
responding to a stimulus by growing towards/away from it
2
Q
Are plant shoots positively or negatively phototropic?
A
they are positively phototropic, towards the light
3
Q
Are roots positively or negatively phototropic?
A
they are negatively phototropic, away from the light
4
Q
Describe the role of auxins in phototropism.
A
auxins are produced in the tips of a shoot, auxins diffuse to the shaded side and elongate the cells, which make the shoot grow towards the light
5
Q
Describe the role of auxins in gravitropism.
A
auxins are found in root-tips. Auxins stop the roots elongating, growth is in the direction of gravity therefore ensuring they reach moisture
