role of technology in sport Flashcards
what is video analysis e.g. dartfish used for
used by coach to spot problems with an athletes technique so they can implement correction e.g watching over a video and coach seeing the technique is wrong
what are the issues with using video analysis
perfection is not always possible
coach can become obsessed with mastering the perfect technique with perfect body
not always case
changing technique can cause injury
GPS tracker
provides quantitative data
useful for distance running, cycling
allows athlete to monitor their speed, distance and time
ensures athlete is running at correct intensity e.g. aerobic or anaerobic
can monitor improvements
problems with GPS tracker
signal can be lost causing data to be incorrect/incomplete
coach could become over reliant on the data/setting targets which are too challenging rather then listening to athletes body
V02 max/lactate threshold tests
used to establishh the amount of oxygen an athlete can take in, transport and utilise in one minute
point at which lactic acid begins to accumluate in the blood
issues with v02 tests
coach would need to consider the integrity of the data, is it reliable? was it carried out using correct method?
metabolic cart
used to calculate REP (respiratory exchange ratio)
amount of energy being used by athlete and the main fuel source e.g carbs, proteins, fats
could help athlete decide what they need to eat e.g marathon runner may need to take energy gel
notational analysis
provides objective data bout players postition on the court i.e when the goal was conceded was the defender psotioned correctly?
issues with notational analysis
in open game like football every situation is different
could it lead to overloading the athlete with information?
is it relevant to the performer?
could over complicate
