injury rehabilitation methods Flashcards
what are all the injury rehabilitation methods
proprioreceptive training
strength training
hyperbaric chambers
hydrotherapy
cryotherapy
proprioceptive training
uses hopping, bouncing and balance exercises
used to restore lost proprioceptors
teach the body to control the position of an injured joint subconsciously
e.g balance board , standing on it strengthens joint
strength training
uses resistance of some kind
resistance can be free weights, body weight or use of TheraBand’s
e.g free weights have to be contolled as lifted/used late on in recovery phases
e.g machine weigths/used in early stages of injury
therabands, made of latex and can have different strengths
as injury improves, bands with greater resistance are used
hyperbaric chambers
chamber pressurised with 100 percent pure oxygen
increase in pressure increases amount of oxygen that can be breathed in
means more oxygen can be diffused to the injured area
excess oxygen dissolves into the blood plasma where it can reduce swelling and increase blood supply to injured site
cryotherapy
use of cooling to treat injuires
cooled by liquid nitrogen to temp below 100 degrees
blood from arms and legs reedistibuted towards core to keep body warm adn protect vital organs
once leave chamber, bllod distributed back to legs and arms full of oxygen with help heal injured cells
hydrotherapy
use of warm water
used to improve blood circulation, relieve pain and relax muscles
adv-the buoyancy of the water helps support body weight , reduces load on joints and allows more exercise to be permitted on land
exercising against resistance helps to strengthen injured area
