Rapid Intervention Team
What is the purpose of the RIT?
to provide a team of emergency personnel ready to rescue emergency personnel who become lost, trapped and/or injured in the Hot Zone of an incident and cannot remove themselves.
Who does the RIT SOG apply to?
All operations personnel
When will RIT be established?
On all emergency incidents where emergency personnel are engage in activities in the Hot Zone and/or where an IDLH atmosphere is present or members are subject to special hazards, or at the determination of the IC
What is an IRIC?
A minimum of 2 fully equipped personnel on site, in a ready state, for immediate rescue of injured or trapped emergency personnel
What is the sole purpose of IRIC?
locate and remove lost, disoriented, medically disabled, trapped or entagled emergency personnel until a full RIT can be established
What is a RIT?
A minimum of four trained personnel during an offensive or complex emergency op.
What is the difference between IRIC and RIT?
RIT is an assigned funtion under IMS

At who’s discretion can more than one RIT be assigned?
IC
How will the RIT stage?
On a designated yellow tarp, for the best tactical advantage for safety and rapid deployment based upon the direction of the IC or Ops Officer
Equipment for the RIT?
TIC, Radio, lights, search ropes w/biners, webbing, forcible entry tools, RIT pack, saws, ladders, extrication equipment, med equipment

Duties, identify location of the staging area for the RIT, and determine when the RIT is deployed for rescue.
If the RIT is deployed what will the IC do at once?
Call for additional resources
What is the mission of RIT at an emergency scene?
Locating and removing lost, injured, or trapped emergency personnel in the Hot Zone that cannot remove themselves.
Upon arrival on the scene what will a RIT officer do?
Immediately report to the command post and get briefing from IC to determine who the team reports to, where the team stages, and what tac ops is on.
What information should the RIT officer gather at the command post?
Location of all crews and their assignments Hazards Structure fire -Burn time -Construction and age -Pertinent info on building -Extent of fire
When a RIT officer conducts a recon of fire building or hazard location what information should be gathered?
Occupancy size & rescue concerns Building construction to determine tools needed Impact glass Collapse hazard Fire progress Access and egress access obstacles firefighter locations Uncontrolled utilities
While working multiple floors what shall the RIT officer do?
Alert Ops as to whether or not ladders or a second means of egress are in place or not

The missing or trapped ff are located and removed
The RIT is relieved
