A

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
- chronic obstruction of airflow that interferes with normal breathing

SYMPTOMS: 
Cough
Fatigue
Frequent Respiratory infections
Dyspnea
Chest tightness
Wheezing
Cyanosis

DX:
With spirometry

A

PROCESS:

  • Lots of thick mucus production blocks bronchi and causes infection/inflammation that leads to scarring
  • Death usually from infections or intestinal malabsorption (life expectancy - 37 years)
PTA: 
Educate family!
- airway clearance
- postural drainage
- breathing ex
- percussion techniques
- HEP strength and endurance
