Q

Gout

Tx?

A

Due to reduced processing of uric acid.
Uric acid builds up and forms crystals. Crystals cause joint pain and kidney stones which can result in join erosion

TX:
Acute - too painful to work with them in PT
Chronic - we can work with them

Q

Osteoporosis and osteopenia

A

Osteoporosis: Abnormal loss of bones mass

Q

Rickets vs Osteomalacia

A

Rickets: KIDS

  • weakened bones due to childhood deficiency of vit D, Ca, and phosphate
  • long bones will bend under pressure

Osteomalacia: Rickets for ADULTS
- bone softening (same deficiencies)
