Day 1-5= uterus lining breaks down, bleeding
Day 6-10= uterus lining thickens again
Day 11-18= ovulation
Day 19-28= uterus lining continues to thicken
Higher chance of pregnancy if had sex between 8 and 18

Human chorionic gonadotropin
-secreted soon after fertilisation
-detectable after 14 days
-peak concentration between 60 and 90 days

Menopause
-significant hormonal change around the time of final period
-reached menopause when haven’t had a period for a year
-average age to reach menopause if 52
Female sex hormones
-hypothalamus releases GnRH
-stimulate pituitary gland to produce LH and FSH
-from puberty onwards LH, FSH, oestrogen and progesterone play vital role in regulating menstrual cycle
Male sex hormones
-hypothalamus releases GnRH
-stimulates pituitary gland release LH and FSH
-LH, FSH and testosterone stimulate production of sperm in the testes
