Key functions (male)
-to produce and deliver sperm (spermatogenesis)
-store sperm
-discharge sperm into female reproductive system to fertilise ova
Penis
Urination and sexual intercourse, made of spongy tissue and blood vessels.
Urethra
Allows urine and sperm to pass outside the body
Bulbis glandis
Immediately before ejaculation the tissues swell up to lock/tie the males penis inside the female, its an erectile tissue structure.
Testicles
Responsible for making sperm and are also involved in producing testosterone
Epididymis
Moves the sperm from the testicles
Vas deferens
Tube in which the sperm is stored and it carries the sperm out of the scrotal sac
Prostate gland
Produce the fluid that nourishes and transports sperm (seminal fluid)
The penis
Corpus cavernosum - fills with blood
Corpus sponglosum - prevents collapse of the urethra during erection
The Os penis
Also known as the bacculum, a bone which aids in maintaining erection during copulation
