Random drugs Flashcards
Denosumab
Monoclonal (fully human!) soluble decoy receptor for RANKL. Used in osteoporosis.
Pallifermin
Recombinant keratinocyte growth factor. Protects oral mucosa and skin during chemo and radiation treatment.
Vesamicol
Inhibits presynaptic vesicular Ach transporter. Like a cholinergic version of Reserpine.
Reserpine
Inhibits presynaptic vesicular monoamine transporter (VMAT). Like a noradrenergic version of vesamicol.
Hemicholinium
Inhibits presynaptic choline transporter into neuron (this is the rate-limiting step in Ach synthesis).
Metyrosine
Tyrosine hydroxylase inhibitor. Can be used for pheo.
Guanethidine and Bretylium
Presynaptic cholinergic blocker. Replaces norepinephrine in transmitter vesicles.
Phenoxybenzamine vs Phentolamine
Phenoxybenzamine: irreversible alkylator of alpha receptors. t1/2 = 24 hrs. Oral dosing.
Phentolamine: reversible inhibitor of alpha receptors. t1/2 = 20 mins. IV or IM.
