Radiology M4 - R3 : periodontology Flashcards
overall assessment of periodontal disease is based on both what
clinical and radiographic examination
what would a radiograpgh show, for someone suffering with periodontal disease
would show the amount of bone remaining in relation to length of tooth
when measuring bone loss for periodontal disease on a radiograph, it is essential for the following requirements
fine detail required
excellent quality films
not overexposed
well processed if film and correct contrast if digital
which technique would be used to see perio endo lesions
vertical bitewing
why do we get cervical burnout
cervical burnout appears as a radiolucent band around the neck of teeth and is more prounonced at the proximal edges.
the x-ray photons overpenetrate or burnout the thinner tooth edge and create a radiolucent area that mimics cervical caries
if there was uniformed pocketing <6mm, which radiograph would have been used to detect it
horizontal bitewinf
if a radiograph shows perio-endo lesions, which radiograph would have been used
vertical bitewings
if there was irregular pocketing present which radiograph methods would you use
bitewings +/- paralleling periapicals
there is no clear evidence to support any recommendations regarding how often radiographs should be taken for periodontal reasons.
what would be recommended in regards to radiograph
sequential intraoral radiographs should be placed reproducibly/accuratley to allow for radiographic assessment of changes in bone levels
which radiographic technique can be used to assess all teeth and their periodontal support
