rad biology Flashcards
law of bergonie and tribondeau
The radio sensitivity of a cell is directly proportional to reproductive rate, and is inversely proportional to its degree of differentiation
Radio sensitivity increases with
Increase rate of cell division
-Law degree of specialization
-Higher metabolic rate
-Increase oxygenation
Increased length of time they are actively proliferating. cell proliferation is the process by which a cell grows and divides to produce two daughter cells
cell cycle stages
G1: first growth phase
S: synthesis phase: S phase is the least radiosensitive phase of the cell, because the cell contains two copies of its DNA
G2: second growth phase
M: the cell divides into two cells in the process called mitosis. Mitosis is the most radiosensitive phase, because both mitosis is sensitive to destruction, and because the cell is well oxygenated during this phase.
Least radiosensitive
Synthesis phase
most radiosensitive
mitosis
-due to cells being well oxygenated
Lymphocytes
are the most radiosensitive blood cells
-whole body dose of 25 rads will depress flood count
-# 1!!!
reproductive cells
very radiosensitive because there immature sperm cells
muscle
relatively insensitive, because of high specialization and lack of cell division
nerve
low sensitivity, no division
Most radiosensitive cells to least radiosensitive
- blood cells (bone marrow, lymphatic tissue)
-lymphocytes, stem cells
2.reproductive cells
-immature sperm cells
3.GI= small intestine- duodenum is most radiosensitive
4.epithelial tissue - muscle
- nerve
