Q

Fluid collects in the aveoli - left ventrical is unable to pump blood adequately - pressure increases inside the left atrium and then in the pulmonary veins and capillaries, causing fluid to be pushed through the capillary walls into the alveoli - feeling of suffocating or drowning, sob, irregular pulse, frothy, blood-tinged sputum

A

used to visualize the location, size, and shape of the heart, lungs, blood vessels, ribs, and bones of the spine. Can also reveal fluid in the lungs or pleural space, pneumonia, emphysema, cancer, and other conditions

Q

This is marked by dyspnea, pleuritic chest pain that is aggravated by deep breathing, mild fever, and decreased or absent breath sounds over the effusion. Fluid accumulates in the space between the layers of pleura.

A

Pleural Effusion - abnormal amount of fluid around the lungs -

Q

A pt with cor pulmonale will likely exhibit what response to exercise?

A

Increased HR decreased BP - pts who have cor pulmonale exhibit right sided heart failure as a result of pulmonary hypertension. These pts tend to present w a decrease in cardiac output (although heart rate increases, stroke volume and systolic blood pressure decrease) during ex,resulting in pallor, sweating, hypotension and rapid pulse of small amplitude..
