Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Flashcards
1
Q
What is PNF?
A
- Original goal of treatment was to establish gross motor patterns with the CNS
- Premise that stronger parts of the body are utilized to stimulate sand strengthen the weaker parts
- based on balance of agonist and antagonist muscle groups
- places great influence on manual contacts and correct handling
- short and consice verbal commands are used along with resistance throughout the full movement pattern.
- movement patterns follow diagonals or spirals that each posses a flexion, extension and rotatory component and are directed toward or away from midline
2
Q
Chopping
A
A combination of bilateral upper extremity asymmetrical patterns performed as a closed-chain activity
3
Q
Developmental Sequence
A
A progression of motor skill acquisition. the starges of motor control include mobility, stability, controlled mobility and skill.
4
Q
Mass Movement Patterns
A
The hip, knee and ankle move into flexion or extension simultaneously
5
Q
Overflow
A
Muscle activation of an involved extremity due to intense action of an uninvolved muscle or group of muscles
