Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Flashcards

1
Q

What is PNF?

A
  • Original goal of treatment was to establish gross motor patterns with the CNS
  • Premise that stronger parts of the body are utilized to stimulate sand strengthen the weaker parts
  • based on balance of agonist and antagonist muscle groups
  • places great influence on manual contacts and correct handling
  • short and consice verbal commands are used along with resistance throughout the full movement pattern.
  • movement patterns follow diagonals or spirals that each posses a flexion, extension and rotatory component and are directed toward or away from midline
