What’s the big deal about gestational diabetes?
40-50% of people that develop gestational diabetes will develop overt DM later in life
hCG, TSH, Insulin
all have similar alpha structures
When is the anatomic structure of the baby analyzed via ultra-sound
18- 20 weeks, prior to that eveything is too small
What three things can ultrasound tell you?
Structure
Blood Flow
Amniotic Fluid Volume
-Can’t tell you everything about fetal well-being like many ppl think
Fetal heart rate criteria
should be between 110- 160 BPM

ability to live outside the uterus supported or unsupported
premature
talks about the baby whereas preterm talks about the pregnancy
4 phases of labor:
- Latent= pre-labor < 4 cm
- Active phase = 1st 4-10 cm
- Pushing = 2nd
- Delivery Placenta= 3rd
KNOW THESE
C/S risks
KNOW
- Increased bleeding
- increased abdominal scarring
- increased risk of uterine rupture with each additional C/S
- Increased risk of placenta accreta if the palcenta is low in the uterus. Placenta acreta involves the placenta being over the top of the scar, deep in the myometrium. Leads to hemorrhage.
