Precautions of a DVT
DO NOT GET PATIENT OUT OF BED.
Precautions of an ORIF
WB modifications
ROM limitations
Strength limitations - locally, proximally, and distally
NWB
non-weight bearing - 0% body weight
TTWB
toe-touch weight bearing - toes may touch the floor as if a raw egg is under their toes. do not put weight on leg (don’t crack the egg)
PWB
partial-weight bearing; >50% body weight
WBAT
weight-bearing as tolerated; 50-100% body weight
FWB
full weight bearing; 100% body weight
Posterolateral THA Precautions (3)
- No hip flexion > 90 deg.
- No hip adduction
- No hip IR
Anteriolateral THA Precaustions (3)
- No hip extension beyond neutral
- No hip ER
- Don’t lay prone
TSA precautions (3)
- Pt in sling
- avoid AROM first 4 weeks
- avoid lifting >1 lb for 6 weeks
Precautions for ligamentous injury/instability (3)
- ROM restrictions - may be part of post-operative protocol
- Strength limitation
- WB restrictions
TKA precautions
No precautions - maybe a knee immobilizer
