Q

Where is auxin produced

A

In the tips as it moved backwards to stimulate the cell elongation process which occur in the cells just behind the tips

5
Q

What happens with extra auxin

A

It promotes growth in the shoots but inhibits growth in the roots which is the desired result

6
Q

Why do shoots grow towards light

A

Because if a shoot is exposed to light more auxin will build up in the shaded side of the top which elongates this side of the tip quicker than the other side and bends it towards the light

7
Q

Why do shoots grow away from gravity

A

The gravity produces an unequal amount of auxin in the lower side of the tip so here the tip will grow more and elongate making the tip grow upwards

8
Q

Why do roots grow towards gravity

A

The gravity will also make an uneven amount of auxin on the lower side but because extra auxin inhibits growth the cells on the top of the root will grow faster and the root will bend downwards

11
Q

Why do auxins help cuttings grow with rooting powder

A

Rooting powder contains auxins and therefor when a cutting is replaced in soil the auxins enable the growing to happen quickly

Q

How is ethene produced in plants

A

By aging parts of a plant

17
Q

What does ethene stimulate

A

The ripening of fruits

18
Q

Why does ethene help transportation of fruits

A

If a fruit like bananas isn’t ripe they can still be picked and if you mix the bananas with ethene on their travels the bananas will ripen in the way to the supermarket
