ENG 1 FIXED PWR
Torque split
engine does not respond to collective input
Fly…set 80 knots, make small changes to confirm fixed pwr.

Throttle- (after going through checklist-
If unable to descend due to fixed at high power, throttle stop)
Checklist- TAB 3
Draw side view of engine
.
FADEC 1 XENG
30 sec power armed
Fly…avoid high power setting and rapid collective movements (Could inadvertently go into 30 range)
ID- FADEC CROSS ENG COM FAULT on #1 engine..
Checklist- TAB 4
30 Sec power armed in case the other engine has failed.
FADEC 1A cross engine A ARINC 429 data fault. #1 eng doesn’t know condition of #2
FADEC acronym for:
FULL AUTHORITY DIGITAL ENGINE CONTROL (FADEC)
ENG 1 RATE LIM
Possible Nr droop
Possible loss of Load sharing
Possible Slow engine acceleration
Fly….Minimize rate of collective input. Land as soon as PRACTICAL
ID- ENGINE RATE LIMIT on #1 engine
Checklist- TAB 4
Where are the FADECs located
.
ENG 1 POWER LIM
Full engine power may not be available
Power available is limited below maximum
FLY…avoid maneuvers that require high power, Land as soon as PRACTICAL
ID- ENGINE POWER LIM on #1 engine
Checklist- TAB 4
FADEC 1 OVRHEAT
Fly…Land as soon as PRACTICAL
ID- FADEC OVERHEAT #1 engine
Throttle-na
Checklist- TAB 4
ENG 1 OVERSPEED
Nr & Np cycle between 118 and 121%
Ng cycles above 108.5%
Fly…Adjust to OEI profile, Land as soon as PRACTICAL
ID- ENGINE OVERSPEED on #1 engine
Throttle- IDLE, then STOP.
Checklist- TAB 4
ENG 1 OVSP TEST
Fly…Continue flight (correct prior to next flight)
ID- ENGINE OVERSPEED TEST on #1 engine
Checklist- TAB 4
May not have overspeed protection
Bang or popping sounds Yaw Kicks Rapid increase in TGT Decrease in torque Fluctuations in Nr
Fly…reduce power, (adjust to OEI profile)
ID- ENGINE COMPRESSOR STALL
Throttle- Idle, back FLY if stall stops
Checklist- TAB 5
Flight through extreme air temp may cause compressor stalls
If stall continues go to EMERGENCY ENGINE SHUTDOWN
Engine Start will be aborted for any of the following four reason:
TGT will exceed 1000c No oil pressure within 30 sec No light off within 20 seconds (of initial Ng or Throttle to idle) Starter drop out before 50% Ng FCP 2.2
FADEC 1 FAULT
Fly…Continue flight, correct prior to next flight
ID- FADEC FAULT on #1 engine
Checklist- TAB 5
Best Practice 7:
- Check HEALTH, PROPULSION:
1) . If ENGINE status is green then the FAULT will clear after shutdown. If more than half way to offshore location you may shutdown offshore to clear.
2) . If ENGINE status is MAGENTA or less than half way to rig then RTB.
ENG 1 OVERSPEED
Np above Nr then flameout
Loud high-speed rattle
Loud Bang
Fly…adjust to OEI flight profile
ID- ENGINE HIGH SPEED SHAFT FAILURE #1 engine
Throttle- STOP
Checklist- TAB 5
ENG 1 CHIP
NO Secondary indications
Fly…Adjust to OEI flight profile, Land as soon as PRACTICAL
ID- ENGINE CHIP (No secondary)
Checklist- TAB 5
ENG 1 OIL PRESS (Without Secondary indications) or
ENG 1 OIL HOT or ENG 1 OIL BYPASS
Fly…Adjust to OEI flight profile, Land as soon as PRACTICAL
ID- ENGINE OIL SYSTEM MALFUNCTION, #1 engine
Checklist- TAB 6
ENG 1 A-ICE DGRD
FLY…Exit Icing Conditions, Land as soon as POSSIBLE
ID- ENGINE ANTI-ICE DEGRADED
Checklist- TAB 6
Indicates- Insufficient bleed air is being routed to the engine inlet for satisfactory ice protection
INLET 1 A-ICE FAIL
(May have loss of power due to inlet blockage with ICE)
Fly…Exit Icing conditions
ID- ENGINE INLET ANTI-ICE FAIL #1 engine
Throttle-na
Checklist- TAB 6
Indicates an electrical failure of the inlet anti-ice. Note: Do not cycle the switch from OFF to ON more than once
Any Engine Malfunction
- Fly….Maintain Aircraft control, adjust Airspeed, Power within limits.
- Identify……….Affected Engine/Problem, Confirm Secondary indications.
If Secondary Indications (including Engine Fire)
- Throttle……..Confirm (correct engine) then Idle
- Checklist……Complete (for the malfunction)
During INLET 1 A-ICE FAIL how many times may you cycle the affected anti-ice switch OFF and then ON?
one time (RFM Part 1, Section III- 3.11)
What is the minimum Ng speed of the donor engine for a cross bleed start?
90% Ng
(ensures the Anti-Ice start bleed valve is closed so full pressure is available. Otherwise, some air is vented to prevent compressor stalls at low Ng speed) PTM page 6-6
With FADEC 1 FAIL and FADEC 2 FAIL what will happen to the engine and what unusual indications occur?
- The engine will flame out
- no red “X” over engine in EICAS
- No Alt coupling available
- No Engine failure audio
