pericardial disease Flashcards
cause of viral pericarditis
coxsackie B
ddx of acute pericarditis
myocardial infarction, post operative blunt trauma, uremia, autoimmune, radiation
signs of acute pericarditis
pleuritic sharp, chest pain; improves with leaning forward, worse lying down
uremic pericarditis does not present with diffuse ST elevation: True or False?
True
treatment for acute pericarditis
nsaids
what is constrictive pericarditis
fibrous pericarditis, restricted ventricular filling
what is the etiology of constrictive pericarditis
chronic pericarditis, radiation, TB
presentation of constrictive pericarditis
right heart failure - increased JVP, hepatomegaly, peripheral edema, pulsus paradoxus (decreases preload of LV, less CO)
ecg findings of constrictive pericarditis
non specific, low voltage
etiology of pericardial effusion
acute pericarditis, malignancy
presentation of pericardial effusion
orthopnea, chest pain
ecg findings of pericardial effusion
eletical alternans (alternating height of QRS sounds).
cardiac tamponade
rapid in increase in pericardial effusion, increase in pericardial pressure, decrease in ventricular diastolic filling
becks triad for cardiac tamponade
hypotension, increased JVP, muffled heart sounds, pulsus paradoxus.
etiology of cardiac tamponade
aortic dissection, ventricular free wall rupture, trauma,
