Rett’s Syndrome
develop normally at first, but symptoms surface after 6 months of age. increasing problems with movement, coordination and communication that may affect their ability to use their hands, communicate and walk. Commonly, by the time a girl with Rett’s syndrome reaches late childhood, she would no longer be able to walk or talk.
Gower’s sign
A positive Gower’s sign may be indicative of Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy (DMD). A positive Gower’s sign is noted when a child is asked to get up from sitting on the floor and walks the hands up the legs and then moves into a standing position.
Warning signs that too much vestibular input is being provided during treatment:
Warning signs include the child’s report of nausea or dizziness, blanching, hyperactivity, and lethargy.
Erb-Duchenne Palsy
Caused by injury to upper brachial plexus (C5 C6) usually during breech deliveries. Weakness or wasting of small muscles in hands and sensory loss in hand and arm. Arm held with elbow extended, pronated, wrist flexed.
CO-OP Cognitive orientation to daily performance
Problem solving approach to master motor tasks, coach child through self discovery, helps child to formulate goals, Although the main goal of this approach is skill acquisition, Cognitive strategies, generalization, and transfer of learning are also targeted outcomes. (GOAL PLAN DO CHECK)
gravitational insecurity
Overresponsiveness to vestibular sensations and avoidance of movements that require changes in position are typical indicators
